Licensing Process

Obtaining a Real Estate License:

  1. Obtaining a real estate license in your state, or other states in which you may have interest in doing business is not difficult, if you know what to expect, and can fulfill the requirements.  In the state of Ohio, prior to applying for a real estate license, interested persons must complete four courses of pre-licensure education.
  2. Real Estate Principles and Practices 40 hours
  3. Ohio Real Estate Law (including instruction in civil rights, housing discrimination and desegregation problems) 40 hours
  4. Real Estate Appraisal 20 hours
  5. Real Estate Finance 20 hours

These four pre-licensure courses must be taken at an instituion of higher education.  An instituion of higher education is a school that awards a degree in at least a two-year program (i.e. an associate’s degree).  After taking these required courses, the applicant along with a sponsoring broker should submit the certificates of completion, and the state application to the Ohio Division of Real Estate.
